Czech auto major Skoda has unveiled the Octavia G-Tec, which is designed to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). Scheduled to be launched across European markets later this year, the new Octavia G-Tec comes as an environmentally friendly alternative of the sedan, claims the automaker.
As Skoda claims, the Octavia G-Tec sedan is powered by a 1.5-litre TSI engine that is capable of churning out 130 PS of power. The sedan is claimed to be able to achieve a range of 500 km in the WLTP cycle when operated purely using CNG.
Switching between CNG and petrol mode happens automatically without driver intervention, claims Skoda.
Skoda also said that in pure CNG mode, the Octavia G-Tec sedan's CO2 emissions in around 25 percent lower than petrol burning.
The Skoda Octavia G-Tec comes equipped with three CNG tanks installed in the underbody and they can store a total of 17.33 kg of CNG. Also, there is a 9-litre petrol tank as well.
The sedan consumes 3.4 to 3.6 kg per 100 km in the WLTP cycle in CNG mode and 4.6-litre per 100 km in petrol mode, claims Skoda.
